This is an updated version of the “Homes Not Jails Building Occupation Guide”. It features a guide to occupying buildings based on the experience of Homes Not Jails out of the Bay Area along with a history of the SF Commune at 888 Turk. In addition, there is a guide to urban land occupations under the title “Occupy The Farm: A Practical Guide to Seizing and Winning Land.” In this new edition there is another essay titled “Take It Back!!! Capturing Land Resources to Build the Self-determined Communities of Tomorrow” that provides an overview of how to occupy abandoned and overgrown vacant lots. Because of its origin in the Bay Area, some of the legal references are pretty specific to California, but much of the practical advice can be taken and used in different contexts.
